After Disneyland Hotel, this 561-room stunner of a Manhattan-styled ‘scraper’ overlooking Lake Disney is the closest hotel to the parks – 10 minutes on foot max. Open since 2021, the four-star hotel celebrates Marvel superheroes through Marvel art and memorabilia: Ironman armory, 1960s Marvel comic covers by Jack Kirby, Giovanni Contardi’s brilliant Black Widow portrait crafted from 840 Rubik’s cubes... Each of the eight floors stars a different superhero, and super-sized family rooms sleep six. Highchairs with Mickey Mouse ears cater to tots in the upscale Italian-gastronomic restaurant Manhattan and buffet-style Downtown eatery (Ironman macarons anyone?). The icing on the Marvel cake? Diving into the indoor pool styled like the New York metro and snapping selfies with Captain America and Spiderman in the Super Hero Station.

Eyeballing the mirrored façade of Hotel New York across the water, this cruise ship of a stately residence by Lake Disney is the resort’s largest hotel with 1,100 rooms. A posh seaside mansion in 1930s New England inspires the four-star lakeside hotel and on sunny days, its creamy-blue reflection shimmering on the water is a wonderful antidote to Mickey megalomania. Inside, interiors mix nautical features and ocean-blue hues. Donald Duck peeps through wallpapered ‘port holes’ in blue-and-gold rooms, and fish dominates restaurant menus in buffet-style Cape Cod and the more sophisticated Yacht Club. Indoor and outdoor pools, with sauna, hammam and jacuzzi, entertain all ages.

Taking its cue from America’s national parks, this large wood-and-stone complex is squirrelled away behind a curtain of towering pines and redwoods – so tall and thick you honestly wouldn’t know Lake Disney or the parks (a 15-minute walk) are right on your doorstep. Inside the cavernous three-star hotel, rustic styling delivers flagstone flooring, open fireplace and the occasional hunting trophy or decorative fur rug. A softer, Bambi-themed styling punctuates the labyrinth of 1,011 rooms, split among five separate lodges. Both restaurants, Hunter’s Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern, serve vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as feisty steaks and meat dishes. The hotel’s pebble-shaped indoor pool, spilling partly outside beneath trees, is one of the resort’s loveliest for a quiet, anti-Disney moment en plein nature.

A top-value spot to stay for budget-conscious families, this sprawling two-star motel plunges guests into America’s dusty southwest. Think 1,000 rooms squatting in low-lying ochre-red buildings, distressed neon signage, cacti and barren, desert-like grounds. Pull up on Route 66 – there’s heaps of parking outside, making it a handy pit stop for anyone arriving by car – and plunge into the Disney film universe of Cars. Colourful interiors – lots of sand red and dirty yellow – can feel a trifle dated (this is one of the resort’s 1992 originals), but live music and karaoke evenings in the buzzingRio Grande Bar, Tex Mex and European buffets atLa Cantina and a Pow Wow arcade room quickly distract. Free shuttles bus guests to and from the parks, a 20-minute walk along the river.

Don’t be deceived by the unexciting façade of this 396-room hotel in the Fabulous Hotels Group, linked by free shuttle bus to Disneyland two miles away. Twirl through its red-glass revolving door to enter a spectacular world of illusion – spellbinding for every age. The theatrical lobby is deep red; ‘guardian of the house’ Monsieur Maurice sits beneath stars in the subsequent midnight-blue room; and the hallucinatory mirrored Great Hall is a pinch-me-is-it-real mirage of fluttering butterflies and fluffy white rabbits bouncing across pea-green meadows. Thankfully, contemporary rooms with decorative stars and constellations are not so immersive: kids should sleep like a dream in bunk-clad family rooms accommodating up to eight. The hotel has an indoor pool, arcade games room and two restaurants.

A dream castle this is not, but guests can still stroll around the sophisticated styling at this contemporary four-star hotel with admirable appreciation. A golden stag, traditional prey of hunt-loving French kings during the Renaissance, welcomes guests in the sweeping lobby-lounge and clever use of wall mirrors conjures up wicked stepmothers, malevolent spells and Disney princesses. Stylised French gardens lead to a sizeable outdoor pool, and the indoor ‘Dragoon Lagoon’ sports water slide and paddling pool for kids, jacuzzi and hammam. Some family rooms have built-in bunk beds and connecting rooms sleep eight. A banquet of a breakfast buffet is served beneath a green foliage maze and dinner is in the castle roastery. Free shuttle buses connect the hotel, part of the Fabulous Hotels Group, with Disneyland two miles away.

This elegant townhouse-styled address, a five-minute train ride on RER A from the Park, is an eminently sensible choice for parents who’d rather not eat-sleep-dream Disney 24/7. On the café-framed square outside, dormer windows slotted into slate-grey mansard roof scream ‘Paris!’ and interior palettes of soothing taupe and soft green are the perfect antidote to a frenetic day at Disney. Public areas enjoy a peaceful, hushed vibe – kudos for the sunken mezzanine-lounge with circular sofa and glass conservatory awash with potted plants. The hotel has 152 rooms in all, spoiling families with connecting doubles or quadruples, triples and junior suites. If steak frites in steakhouse Le George or brasserie classics in Le Diplomate don’t appeal, head out onto Place d’Ariane for the kids’ pick of pizza, pasta or Asian.

Count 30 minutes door-to-door by bus from this Center Parcs resort to Disneyland. The journey can feel a drag late at night with little ones, but on the up side, there is mountains of green space to run wild in and energy-burning outdoor activities by the bucket-load (an educational farm, tree climbing, water park with slides) to bookend your time at Disney with or enjoy during a ‘day off’ from the Park. Sprawled between woods and fields, the eco-resort sports self-catering apartments and cottages sleeping two to 12 people in themed gardens landscaped around wind, water and fire. Some overlook a lake brimming with birdlife and VIP properties have private wooden decks with garden furniture. On days when you can’t be bothered to cook, several restaurants deliver. Minimum two-night stay.

This fun lifestyle hotel by Marriott is an interesting mix of Disneyesque whimsy and urban cool – teens particularly appreciate it. Five minutes on foot from the Val d’Europe RER train station, it’s well-placed for Disneyland (one stop on Line A) and central Paris sightseeing. An open-plan lounge with central bar and fashionable banquette seating doubles as reception, and a Mediterranean garden entertains with deck chairs, gravel pétanque pitch and modern Bistro 51. Plunge further into the labyrinthine ground-floor to uncover a pool table, indoor playground and tech ‘corner’ with desktop computer and vinyl record player.
